Pre/Post-Surgical Physical Therapy

While many know the benefits of post-surgical physical therapy, not all are aware that pre-surgical physical therapy can also be a very effective tool.  Physical therapy before an operation can enhance the body’s strength and flexibility, specifically, the muscles surrounding the joints/injured area, which can significantly improve the recovery process. Additionally, pre-surgical physical therapy can boost overall physical fitness, potentially leading to better surgical outcomes.

Postoperative physical therapy is essential for recovery. Working together with the referring physician, our physical therapists focus on range of motion exercises, progressive strengthening exercises, gait training, balance training, and activity-specific training.

It’s also important for post-surgical patients to continue their rehabilitation program even after the pain has subsided. Getting rid of pain is one of the top priorities, but functionality, strength, and rehabilitation goals may take longer to fully achieve.
